STORY

The Rwenzori Mountains are a prime example of high-quality coffee production in Uganda. Reaching a maximum elevation of 5,109 meters, most of this mountain range is designated a World Heritage Site. The Ugandan side, in particular, is home to rare flora and fauna and is a Ramsar site. This scenic area, with its extreme temperature differences at an altitude of 1,900 meters and slightly acidic soil ideal for coffee production, creates an environment conducive to the production of high-quality cherries.

The Rwenzori Mountains also boast some of the highest rainfall in the world. Abundant water resources enable the processing of high-quality washed coffee. Small-scale farmers in the Kyondo and Kyalumba regions of the Rwenzori Mountains bring cherries harvested from their fields to the Kishinga washing station or collection point. This batch met stricter standards than usual, ensuring only fully ripe cherries were accepted.
