About La Bolsa
Huehuetenango is the most remote of Guatemala's eight regions, located on the Mexican border. Known as "Highland Huehue," it is a rough, high-altitude agricultural location with rocky terrain in some areas. Frost can occasionally be visible on winter mornings during harvest season. However, dry, hot winds from Mexico blow through the region, providing a distinct microclimate that enables coffee production.
La Bolsa is located in the La Libertad region, south of Huehuetenango and close the Mexican border. Many of its farms have won awards in the Cup of Excellence competition. Coffees from La Libertad have also received high marks in recent competitions. El Injerto is another well-known farm in the area, having won numerous awards.
The Vides family manages and operates La Bolsa. The farm is superb, finishing second in the 2003 Cup of Excellence (which was won by the American company Intelligentsia). The lengthy stream used for irrigation on the farm is bordered by natural woodland, producing a stunning image with the clear running water. The drying area and neighboring valley evoke a sense of beautiful nature.
Renaldo, his son, has a successful track record in the domestic purchasing department of exporter Unitrade, and he comes from a diverse background that includes agricultural production and consumption.
